In a Nutshell:
Diane Anderson-Minshall is the co-founder and former executive editor of Girlfriends magazine and the co-founder and former editor in chief/publisher of Alice magazine. She is currently a contributing editor at Curve magazine (national readership: 205,000) and a freelancer with a number of national magazines.

Diane, 34, the former CEO and publisher of Medusa Press, has a total of 20 years publishing experience in periodicals (Girlfriends, OOB, QSF, Passport), newspapers (Crescent City Star, New York Times, Idaho State Journal), corporate communications (General Electic, First Interstate Bancorp), and book publishers (McGraw Hill/McMillan). As a consultant, one of her high profile clients was Solimar, a new age magazine that aquired a three million dollar investment package from Stanton Financial Group.

Her freelance work has appeared in over 30 magazines including Seventeen, Curve, Film Threat, Diva, Venus, Natural Health,Femme Fatales, and Bitch.

Diane's essays and fiction appear in a variety of anthologies including Closer to Home (Seal Press), Young Wives Tales (from Seal Press) and Tough Girls (from Black Books). Her book-length projects include a 120-page special issue of the widely read women's journal Sinister Wisdom (1996) and Lavender Locker, a 250-page anthology of work by writers under 20 (1992).

Diane attended Tulane, Xavier, and Idaho State universities as well as New College of California and University of California at Berkeley. She has a BA in communication and a post-grad certificate in publishing. She holds many awards for publishing (including several Vica Versa Awards) and was a finalist for the 2000 Women in Periodical Publishing's Exceptional Woman in Publishing Award (which was won by Bonnie Krueger, founder of Complete Woman).

RECENT PUBLISHING EXPERIENCE
Managing Editor, QSF Magazine and Passport Magazine, Feb. 2002-May 2002. Editing, writing, intern management, trafficking, tracking, art aquisitions.


Editor in chief/publisher/CEO, Alice Magazine/Medusa Press LLC, June 1999-November 2000. Launched an 80-page quarterly multicultural magazine. Secured over a dozen distributors nationally and overseas. Developed business, direct mail, and marketing plans. Managed all cash flow, P&L statements, taxes, advertising, marketing, pre-press, and editorial direction. Supervised sixty writers and small core staff of eight. Developed and managed successful web site with over 100,000 visitors monthly and secured partnership with Snowball (the largest Gen-I network on web).


Executive Editor, Girlfriends Magazine, April 1994-November 1998. Launched national women's magazine. Developed all content. Supervised art and editorial staff as well as numerous freelancers. Managed healthy annual budget and reduced costs by 25% a year by streamlining. Worked with advertising and marketing to raise ratebase to nearly 100,000. Managed pre-press operations-galleys, design, proofs, print. Orchestrated several annual best-selling issues such as "Men We Love." Won numerous awards.


Associate Editor & Editorial Consultant, OOB Magazine, March 1993-April 1994 & 1997. Streamlined art and photography systems. Managed fiction aquisitings. Spearheaded national intern program. Advised relaunch and redesign of bi-monthly women's magazine.

Solimar Magazine (1999): Provided editorial repositioning plan, P&L, cash flow, and market plans for 96 page magazine (resulting in a million investment offer from Stanton Financial Group).


San Francisco Pride Guide (1998): Executed editorial postmortem and market analysis for launch.


50/50 Magazine (1994): Performed initial edits for 64 page start up's launch.


Cinepico (1999-2000): Did film scouting for start up DVD film company funded by Noiseland.com.
